Wrap up warm this winter whilst watching TV on the sofa with a Down and Cotton duvet. With the temperatures now starting to cool, and there being a bit of reluctance to turn the heating on, it can be a bit chilly in the evenings whilst you’re catching up with your favourite TV shows.
We can highly recommend investing in a single, natural filled duvet to keep you warm in the living room this winter. Tried and tested, the team have been finding out the best ways to keep warm without piling on all your woolly jumpers in one go.
Why a single duvet?
A single duvet measures 135 x 200cm which makes it the perfect size for popping over your lap on the sofa, it would even cover two laps – making it great for a cozy date night at home.
If you’re not one for sharing, a single duvet is the ideal size for wrapping around yourself like a cape. Making you completely cocooned, comfy and warm all night whilst on a movie marathon.
Why a natural filled duvet?
Natural filled duvets are great for keeping you warm and comfortable. Making sure you don’t get too warm as the natural fill traps air for a consistent temperature all evening.
What fill should you go for?
If you would like a bit of weight to your duvet and extra warmth, opt for a duvet with a higher feather content.
If you prefer a lighter duvet which will give you freedom to move around (great if you’re a bit of a fidgeter whilst watching TV) opt for a duvet with a more down than feather.
Both options will ensure you stay warm without getting too hot or breaking in a sweat. Lets face it, we’ve all been there when we’ve piled on the layers of clothing to keep warm and then 5 minutes later had to taken them all off again because we’re too hot. Same with throws and blankets – we pile them on, kick them off, pile them on, kick them off.
A natural fill duvet will keep you warm, but the feather and down fill will help to wick away any excess heat and sweat to keep you at a constant, cosy temperature.

How about TOG?
TOG stands for “thermal overall grade”and is a unit which indicates a duvets heat retention capacity. The higher the TOG rating, the warmer your duvet will be.
The Down and Cotton team trialed a few TOG ratings and each had their own preference.
4.5 TOG was trialed by Donna in Marketing and she liked the lightweight feel of the duvet and said it was warmer than having a blanket. Other key points were the softness of the duvet which made her feel very cosy and the lower TOG meant the duvet was easier to fold up and store when not in use.
Operation Manager, Kerri trialed a 9 TOG single duvet for family film nights. Kerri said it was great for an extra layer of warmth for the family as they cosied up together on the sofa. Kerri liked that the duvet was machine washable, meaning if the children spilled any drinks it can be popped in the washing machine and used time and time again.
